New Toyota Landcruiser

The legendary Toyota LandCruiser has entered a new era with the reveal of its first ever performance one-motor hybrid powertrain option, combining Toyota’s decades-long expertise in hybrid powertrain technology with the LandCruiser’s storied reputation for quality, durability and reliability (QDR).

The introduction of a performance hybrid LandCruiser in the first half of 2026 marks an important step in Toyota Australia’s multi-pathway approach towards electrification, offering customers a mix of powertrain technologies to support their varied lifestyles.

Building on the legacy of hybrid technology which began in October 2001 with the introduction of the Prius to Australia, the first performance hybrid LandCruiser delivers improved power and strong towing capability from its parallel one-motor hybrid system over the existing diesel powertrain.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the new LandCruiser 300 Series would offer customers a level of performance never before offered on the nameplate.

“For decades, Australians have trusted the LandCruiser to get them to the furthest reaches of the country and back again – it is synonymous with Australian outback touring thanks to its incredible capability and dependability,” Mr Hanley said.

“We have always said that Toyota aims to offer the right powertrains to suit our customers, and we are excited to introduce the first performance hybrid LandCruiser next year, which will offer a level of capability never before seen on our flagship four-wheel drive.”

The new LandCruiser variant is underpinned by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine paired with a powerful electric motor generator in a parallel hybrid arrangement that delivers exceptional output along with impressive smoothness and seamless performance on or off-road.

The new powertrain offers increased power and torque over the existing 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine and has been extensively tested in the world’s harshest environments including the deserts and mountains of the Middle East to ensure rugged durability befitting a LandCruiser.

The LandCruiser’s performance hybrid powertrain has been developed with true off-road capability and reliability front of mind, with the electric motor able to provide smooth and even throttle response even in the toughest of terrain.

Further details on the new LandCruiser will be made available closer to its Australian introduction in the first half of 2026.

Electrified Vehicles:

Toyota C-HR Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): Toyota is set to debut an all-new 2026 C-HR BEV. This model is expected to be a bold entry in their electrified lineup, featuring a powerful system with a manufacturer-estimated all-electric driving range rating of up to 290 miles. It will come equipped with a North American Charging System (NACS) port and is expected to arrive at dealerships in 2026.

Hybrid LandCruiser: The iconic Toyota LandCruiser off-roader is confirmed to go hybrid from 2026. This will be the first time in its 75-year history that it will feature a petrol-electric system. The new hybrid system is expected to use a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine teamed with an electric motor, similar to the system used in the Toyota Tundra. This hybrid system is designed to boost performance and will be available alongside the turbo diesel LandCruiser.
