In 2025, grooms across Australia stepped into a new era of self-expression. Instead of treating the wedding outfit as a formality, men approached it with the same care and intention traditionally given to the bride’s look. Here’s what
Patrick Mackenzie, a Brisbane-based suit tailor, had to say about the trends and styles of 2025, and what to expect in 2026.

How Australian grooms redefined wedding style in 2025

2025 grooms branched out of the expected formula we’ve all grown used to seeing. They now bring a clear style point of view and are paving the way for their own identity to shine on the day, just as much as the brides.

Identity over tradition

Grooms wanted their outfit to reflect who they are, not just what the venue dictated. Colours, textures, and accessories were chosen to match personality, not a rulebook.

Comfort equals style

Breathable fabrics, lighter construction, and fits that allow movement became non-negotiable. Australian heat and outdoor weddings pushed this trend further than we’ve previously seen.

More involvement

Men became active participants in the design process, rather than buying off the shelf. They booked fittings early, chose fabrics themselves, asked more questions, and wanted a “complete look” rather than a basic suit-and-tie.

Collaborative styling

Couples were more aligned. Instead of matching exactly, they created a shared aesthetic; the groom’s suit became part of the wedding palette rather than an afterthought.

Signature colour palettes of 2025, and what they say about modern Australian style

2025 brought a noticeable shift away from the old navy–charcoal dominance. Australian weddings leaned towards softer, sun-inspired, nature-rooted tones, which felt more modern and more suitable for our climate.

Key palettes included:

Earth tones

Tobacco brown, sand, olive, cinnamon and rust, warm organic colours that suit beach, garden and vineyard weddings.

Muted blues & greens

Sage, eucalyptus, dusty blue and slate, calm and elegant tones that photographed beautifully in natural light.

Creams and off-whites

Ivory suits and dinner jackets became surprisingly common, especially for formal summer weddings.

These colours say a lot about Australian style in 2025: relaxed, warm-weather friendly, and grounded in natural landscapes rather than old-school European formality. Couples also coordinated their tones with more intention, not perfectly matching, but blending shades across suits, dresses, florals and linens for a cohesive look.

The status of the black tuxedo in 2025

Despite all the new colours and fabrics emerging, the classic black suit, especially the black tuxedo, never fell out of favour. If anything, its iconic status became even clearer.

Here’s what we took away about the black tuxedo in 2025:

  •  Black remained the benchmark for elegance.
  •  Every new trend was compared against the black tux, which shows how strong its cultural weight is.
  •  It’s the one look that suits every venue and every decade.
  •  From formal city weddings to luxury hotel ceremonies, a black tuxedo still delivers effortless confidence.
  •  Grooms who wanted a sense of occasion kept returning to black.
  •  Even men experimenting with colour for receptions often chose black for the ceremony because it feels                              timeless and grounding.
  •  Tailoring evolved, not the colour.
  •  Softer construction, matte fabrics, wider lapels, and more modern silhouettes kept black feeling contemporary rather than old-fashioned.

But here’s the nuance:

2025 didn’t replace the black tux; it simply expanded the palette around it. Lighter colours, textured fabrics, and earth tones gave grooms more ways to express themselves, yet the black suit stayed the undisputed classic that never goes out of style. If anything, its longevity made it more respected in 2025, not less.

Fabrics and materials that defined 2025 groomwear

Fabric choice became one of the most important decisions of the year.

The defining materials were:

Tropical wool & open weave

Breathable, structured, ideal for Australian heat.

Linen & linen blends

Once considered “too casual,” linen became a premium choice for modern, natural-looking weddings.

Wool–silk blends

Subtle sheen and texture without overload.

Bamboo, organic cotton & eco blends

Chosen for sustainability, softness and drape.

Why these fabrics continue dominate:

  •  Climate: Australian weddings often happen outdoors, and grooms need to stay cool.
  •  Values: Sustainability mattered more — couples wanted natural fibres over synthetics.
  •  Longevity: People preferred suits they could wear again, not single-use outfits.
  •  Aesthetics: Textured fabrics photograph better and feel more expressive

What these 2025 trends mean for 2026

2025 has set the men’s fashion industry on track for two clear directions in 2026:

1. Timeless minimalism

  •  Longevity: People preferred suits they could wear again, not single-use outfits.
  •  Aesthetics: Textured fabrics photograph better and feel more expressive

2. Confident experimentation

Expect more:

  •  Bolder colours for reception jackets
  •  Subtle vintage influences (wide lapels, deeper browns, double-breasted suits)
  •  Mixed textures in a single outfit
  •  Layering pieces like waistcoats in contrasting fabrics

2026 will likely blend “quiet luxury” with thoughtful individuality, not loud for the sake of it, but stylish in a deliberate, grown-up way.

Most unexpected or counter-trend discovery of 2025

The biggest surprise?

Grooms are embracing artistic elements, from subtle grooming to bold colour choices, while still wanting timeless tailoring.

It created an interesting hybrid:

  •  Clean tailoring
  •  Natural fabrics
  •  Very classic cuts
  •  But paired with something expressive, a bold jacket, a colourful boutonnière or a textured shirt.

Another unexpected twist

Brown became the hottest “new neutral.” A colour long considered old-fashioned suddenly became a luxury wedding staple in every shade from espresso to caramel. Across the industry, the shared theme was: grooms are more engaged, more expressive, and more informed than ever.
