Daly Cherry-Evans crowned Sports Dad of the Year this Father’s Day
By popular vote, the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Captain takes top honour

The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles may not be playing finals football this season, but captain Daly Cherry-Evans has still finished the year with a win.

The inspirational skipper was voted as the Philips Sports Dad of the Year for 2023. “I’m very proud to win this award,” Daly said.

“It’s been an enjoyable process and having the kids ask me most days if I’ve won has made me happy knowing how much they care and think I’m a great dad!”

Daly has personally matched the $5,000 prize money he received to donate $10,000 to his nominated charity Gotcha4Life Foundation, which supports mental fitness programs that engage, educate and empower local communities.

“I’ve been an ambassador for this charity for several years now and I believe we need to keep spreading the word to help more people work on their mental fitness,” Daly said.

And after finishing his season on Friday night with the Sea Eagles, Daly can put his feet up after another gruelling season – which included captaining Queensland to an Origin series win – and spend a quality Father’s Day with his family.

“I’m lucky this Father’s Day as I’ll have my dad down from Queensland which is really nice,” he said.

“We’ll be going out for breakfast with mum and dad and then spreading the love with some time with Vessa’s family later that day.”
