As suiting trends evolve, the future of modern tailoring is taking a shift towards timeless craftsmanship and modern innovations to meet the needs of today’s lifestyle. Few understand this better than Tim Aquino, renowned Australian stylist and co-founder of luxury suiting label, THEODORE. With over 15 years of experience, Aquino has helped redefine the modern suit by seamlessly blending traditional tailoring techniques with innovative AI technologies. His designs have been worn by actors like Brenton Thwaites, Ethan Brown, and NBA’s Baron Davis. Now, ahead of the cooler months, he shares his take on suiting trends for Autumn/Winter 2025.

Over the past year, suiting has undergone a major shift, moving away from rigid, formal business looks. “This reflects post-pandemic lifestyle changes,” says Aquino. With comfort, versatility, and functionality in focus, modern suits are designed to seamlessly transition from office to social settings, embracing a more relaxed, adaptable way of dressing.

Australia continues to embrace European influences, with Italian tailoring and Scandinavian minimalism shaping the local menswear scene. Relaxed, unstructured Milanese suits and clean, understated Nordic designs are blending seamlessly with Australia’s climate and lifestyle.

While 2024 was defined by relaxed silhouettes, Aquino predicts a shift toward sharper lines and refined elegance for Autumn/Winter 2025. “The sharper lines paired with relaxed tailoring creates a considered balance of polish and ease,” he says. This evolution brings a more defined silhouette while preserving the comfort that defines the modern suit.

So, what does this mean for the upcoming season? Aquino has some clear predictions.

Expect softly structured blazers with relaxed trousers, statement outerwear, elevated knitwear under suiting, and a palette of muted earthy tones including sage greens, deep olives, warm browns, and refined greys. Fabrics like wool flannel, brushed cotton, bouclé, and herringbone tweed will add texture and depth to an otherwise streamlined look. Meanwhile, relaxed smart-casual separates will remain key, ensuring effortless transitions from business to social settings.

One thing is certain: comfort and functionality are no longer trends, they're staples. "Comfort and functionality are now permanent pillars of modern tailoring," Aquino says. Sustainability and longevity in clothing are also taking center stage, with consumers prioritizing well-made, timeless pieces over fleeting fashion. "Now more than ever, people are conscious purchasers who value quality over quantity," he adds.

As work and leisure seamlessly merge, Aquino sees Autumn/Winter 2025 shifting toward personal style over passing trends. “The real movement is toward enduring, deeply personal style rather than seasonal conformity,” he says. With consumers becoming more mindful of their choices, timeless tailoring that aligns with both lifestyle and values will take center stage, making suiting in 2025 and beyond not just about looking good, but feeling good too.
